Our beloved first lady, Michelle Obama, is on the cover of Essence for their December and January issue. What makes this one particularly relevant to us is the fact that she’s posing with naturally curly hair. Michelle has been and will continue to be an inspiration for all of us. She has embraced her role as the first lady with class and made us all proud.
We have come a long way, but finally, we’re making inroads in popular culture with our natural hair. 2018 has seen a rise in black women wearing their hair naturally, whether it’s Beyonce posing for Vogue; Tracee Ellis Ross wearing flat twist on her tv show Black-ish, or Stacey Abrams slaying those natural twists while running for Governor in Georgia. There are no more excuses to not want to rock those natural twists.
These milestones are significant and Michelle is the inspiration that will take us to the next step
Being the first African American first lady is a great milestone, but we believe there is a lot more to her we have yet to see. You can catch everything the first lady discussed in that interview (Former First Lady Michelle Obama Interview With Essence). The interview was conducted for the coming out of her memoir as the first lady: Becoming. Have you got your copy on Amazon yet?
